Are you looking to buy somewhere in Spain that possesses a tranquil, traditional atmosphere? Away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, while simultaneously being well-connected to the rest of Spain and Europe, so that you are never too isolated? A home in inland Andalucía ticks those boxes and more. Plus, properties are significantly lower cost than they are on the coast.

Andalucía's white-washed villages.

Fall in love with Andalucía’s white-washed villages.

Andalucía is the southernmost region of Spain. For international property buyers, the focal point of the region’s attraction is the 800 metres of coastline that make up the Costa del Sol. Andalucía is also home to exciting cities, including MálagaSeville, Granada and Almería. But inland Andalucía is increasingly turning the heads of international property buyers. Here’s five reasons we think you’ll love it too.

Find homes in Spain via our property portal.

1. A traditional and tranquil atmosphere

Your new neighbourhood?

If one of your big motivators for buying a Spanish home is that you want a peaceful and quiet place to retreat to, either as a welcome retirement or as holiday home, then a home in inland Andalucía could fit you like a glove. Away from the beachfront clubs, restaurants and holidaymakers that have come to characterise much of the Costa del Sol, inland Andalucía promises a life where you can unwind and read a book in a hammock in your garden. Plus, dependent on where you buy, a trip to the beach need only be a brief car journey away.

2. A beautiful natural setting

Montes de Málaga Natural Park

Andalucía is famous for its beautiful, white-washed villages, surrounded by rugged trees, olive groves and vineyards. Just imagine homecooked meals, seated on your terrace, surrounded by such vistas. Additionally, if you’re keen to get your walking boots on, there are multiple natural parks to explore. In the northeast Andalucía, you’ll find Sierras de Cazorla, Spain’s largest natural protected area and home to two of its most important rivers. While Doñana National Park is particularly famous for its pine forests and the Montes de Málaga Natural Park offers spectacular views of the city.

3. Great accessibility

Even as inland Andalucía has a totally different vibe from the coastline and the major cities, it is still never too far from them. With a property here, you are still well-connected to the rest of Spain and Europe. For international flights, you’ll have options from Málaga Airport (the fourth busiest in Spain), Seville, Granada and Almería. While the Autovía A-92 is a major east to west route, the Autovía A-45 serves as a connection to the sea. For train travellers, Spain’s high-speed AVE train covers some smaller towns, while the routes from cities can take you to Madrid and Barcelona. Málaga to Madrid is a journey time of just three hours.

4. A big tick for sunseekers

With over 300 days of sunshine a year and the summer months often not even seeing a drop of rain, a property in inland Andalucía would certainly suit those after maximum sunshine. The weather does differ across the region: Almería has its own desert, Cadiz is home to the rainiest place in Spain, the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. Plus, without the sea breeze, the heat can become quite intense during summer, so be sure to buy a home with plenty of shady spots and lather on the sun cream. The hottest month of the year is August, with highs of 31°C. January feels the biggest chill with highs of 18 degrees.

5. Budget-friendly, characterful properties

If you are more drawn to older homes with an evident history and maybe a couple of quirky features, you’ll be spoiled for choice searching for a property in inland Andalucía. But don’t worry, if you’d prefer a renovated property or a newer home, you’ll be able to find those too. On the Your Overseas Home property portal, we have properties in inland Andalucía for as little as €50,000. While a home for this price will likely require modernising before you’d want to move in, with a budget of €100,000, you’ll be able to purchase a lovely, multi-bedroom home. If you are after a bigger home on a smaller budget, inland Andalucía is the place to look.

It’s not just the price of a property that will be softer on your bank balance either. The cost of living in inland Andalucía is comparatively cheaper than the region’s tourist hotspots and larger cities.
