1. Higher wages and much more disposable income!
According to the OCED Better Life Index, people in the US earn $69,292 per year on average. This is considerably higher than the OCED average of €49,165. In the UK, average earnings are even less than $47,147.
Luckily, in the US, all your money does not go on the boring things that keep life going. There, the average household net adjusted disposable income per capita is $51, 147 a year. While the OCED average is just $30, 490 (the UK is slightly above this at $33,049). Out of all the OCED countries, the US has the highest disposable income.
2. More amusement parks than anywhere else in the world

Once you’ve moved to the US, what are you going to do with all that disposable income? You could spend it on rides! Year after year, the Magic Kingdom (Walt Disney World) has earned the title of the most-visited amusement park in the world. You will be, undeniably, spoiled for choice here. Discover Cedar Point in Ohio for the very best rollercoasters; Universal Orlando Resort for movie magic; Six Flags Magic Mountain for thrill.

3. Bigger homes

Feeling a little crammed in? The US are known for their impressively large homes. Since the middle of the 20th century, homes have been getting bigger and bigger there. According to the New York Times, by the end of 2022, the average new US single-family home sold measured 2,559 square feet. (It has decreased in the last ten years but only by a meagre percent). If you’re after the very biggest home, base your property search in the northeast, where the average new home is 2,756 square feet.
This translates to the average home containing 2.4 rooms per person, higher than the OCED average of 1.7. So, if you’re as hoarder, appreciate time to yourself or want at-home dancing space, a property in the US could suit you amazingly.

4. Thriving job market
The US hasn’t earned a reputation as the land of opportunity for no reason. As the world’s largest economy, the US has an abundance of job opportunities. Plus, unemployment is low with only 0.5% of the labour force out of work for a year or longer. This is considerably lower than the OCED average of 1.3%. And the job opportunities are diverse too. Where else could you be Mickey Mouse, an astronaut and inventor of the latest tech? (Okay, maybe you can’t take on all those jobs in one lifetime).
Another plus is the start-up culture, if you have a new bright idea, it really is the place to be.
The US Bureau of Labour Statistics has a list of the fastest growing occupations. Currently, they are: wind turbine technician ($57,320 median pay per year), nurse practitioner ($121,610), data scientists ($103,500), statisticians ($98,920), information security analysts ($112,00) and medical and health services managers ($104,830). Check out this list and keep an eye out for jobs that are in-demand as being qualified in one might make getting a visa easier. Off you fly, wind turbine technicians!
5. Exceptional education system
The US is home to extraordinary universities. According to Times Higher Education, the UK has pushed US universities out of the number one spot for now – with Oxford University taking the number one. Having said that, Harvard sits proudly at number two. And seven out of the top ten universities are in the United States.
6. Sports
One great way to embrace your new life in the US is to get into the sport. Pick a team (preferably one that wins often) and get passionate. American football, basketball, baseball and even boxing. Plus, joining a local team could be your route to making new friends.
7. Epic natural beauty
Fall in love with the USA’s breathtaking landscapes…
The over 200 miles of stunning desert that makes up the Grand Canyon. The oldest National Park, Yellowstone National Park. And the most important wetlands, Florida Everglades. Then there’s Niagara Falls, Yosemite, Arches National Park, the Great Salt Lake in Utah, and the White Sands National Parks. Whether you are after fun family daytrips, incredible hikes or just an amazing ew from your new home, the US has an abundance of beautiful natural beauty to explore. You may just have to move there to feel like you’ve even touched the surface of all that there is to see…
