A man on the coastal path of Rota Vicentina
Rota Vicentina
This long-distance trail stretches for over 400 km along the southwest coast of Portugal, including sections in the Algarve. The “Fishermen’s Trail” offers spectacular views of the rugged coastline, while the “Historical Way” takes you through rural landscapes and historic villages.
Seven Hanging Valleys trail (Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos)
Starting in Carvoeiro, this trail follows the coastline, offering breathtaking views of the sea and the rugged cliffs. It’s a relatively easy hike, around 5 miles (8 km) one way, and takes you to Praia da Marinha, one of the most iconic beaches in the Algarve.

Lagos to Ponta da Piedade
This coastal walk starts in the town of Lagos and takes you along the stunning cliffs to Ponta da Piedade. The trail offers fantastic vistas of the ocean and unique rock formations. You can take a boat tour to explore the grottoes and sea caves in the area.
Ponta do Altar

Located in the Sagres region, this trail takes you to the Ponta do Altar lighthouse. It’s a relatively short hike but offers incredible views of the rugged coastline and the Atlantic Ocean.

This range of hills and mountains runs across the eastern Algarve. It’s less crowded than the coastal areas and offers various hiking trails with picturesque views, including the Asseca Valley and Rocha da Pena.
