It’s just 25 minutes from Murcia-Corvera Airport, making it ideal for weekend breaks. Callosa de Segura, Alicante, Spain
It’s a good rule of thumb that if you head inland, prices will be lower, and this property certainly bears that out. On the market for €88,000, it’s a three-bedroom townhouse, with a spacious tiled yard and its own solarium, offering fantastic mountain views. You have bars and restaurants within walking distance, and it’s just a five-minute drive to the nearest supermarket. As a plus, it’s still only a 30-minute drive to the nearest sandy beaches (Playa Els Tossals and Platja de la Babilònia), as well as 45 minutes to the airport.
Pilar de la Horadada, Alicante
If you do want to be closer to the sea, prices will be higher, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t find fantastic value properties if you have an agent who knows the local area on your side. For example, take these new townhouses, just five minutes’ drive from the beach and priced from €179,000. The ground floor has a light living/dining room opening out onto the garden and private pool, as well as one bedroom. There are two further bedrooms and two family bathrooms upstairs, and a solarium on the rooftop to make the most of the sunny weather.

Luchapt, Poitou-Charentes, France
This four-bedroom village house is in excellent condition and boasts an expansive, well looked after garden of around 1,000m2. With four bedrooms and an office/study, there’s plenty of space on offer. Luchapt is a pretty little hamlet nestled on the border of the Charente and the Haute-Vienne, with its own mairie, boulangerie-épicérie and a small hotel. It’s on the market for €88,000.

Haines City, Polk County, Florida
Central Florida can be surprisingly affordable, and this spacious four-bedroom, three-bathroom villa is on the market for $224,000. Newly decorated, it occupies a private corner lot and has its own screened swimming pool. With 1833ft2 of space, you certainly get a lot more for your money than back in the UK!
