Portugal is a place of contrasts. In the Algarve, a ten-minute drive can transport you from a rustic inland village to the glitz and glamour of a swanky resort resort in the Golden Triangle. In the capital Lisbon, a short walk will take you from an upmarket district, home to boutiques and glamorous apartments, to a charming neighbourhood with peeling paint and washing hanging from window sills.
Typically hearty, almost always made with fresh ingredients and certainly not limited to piri-piri chicken for those of us more used to Nando’s (which is actually South African), Portugal has many edible delights.
With all that space finding a home in Australia with a garden – or a yard as the locals call it – won’t be a problem. And with all that sunshine you won’t be short of opportunities to enjoy it.
