Spring has arrived in Spain with dawn to dusk sunshine and temperatures in the mid-20s. The almond is in bloom and the British residents over there (if no-one else) are debating whether it’s warm enough to leap into the sea. This week also brings good news on health and wealth. Spain has a few political issues to sort out though, with a General Election called for Easter Sunday.
Anglo-Dutch couple the van Hartens have ditched the rat race in the UK for the more relaxed pace of life, sunnier weather and affordable property of southwest France. Mrs van Harten describes the move as ‘the most relaxed move I’ve ever made’ – we caught with her to find out her top tips for a smooth relocation, and to hear how she and her husband are enjoying their new life.
We purchased our property in Apulia, Italy, 11 years ago this month, and have lived here permanently ever since. Our Italian home, that we lovingly renovated ourselves, is our most favourite place to be. Sitting in our large walled courtyard and surrounded by 8 acres of land, it is our haven away from the craziness going on in the world. There’s a lot to celebrate about Italy this week, as we top the world rankings of dream destinations – beating the likes of Bali – and a new ‘Good Living’ index reveals the best spots to live in the Bel Paese. Plus, we have a look at what the government’s recent decree means for Brexit, including reciprocal access to healthcare.

Also this week, they say an Englishman’s home is his castle, and we think that still holds in the Algarve, as the 15th-century Milfontes Castle comes up for sale on our portal.
As Greece’s recovery from the financial calamity of the past decade continues, we look at what is happening to Greek property prices right now. It’s not just in homes that there are more than encouraging signs, in many sectors of the property market the recovery is not just continuing, but gathering pace.
