6 pieces of good news from Spain

Spring has arrived in Spain with dawn to dusk sunshine and temperatures in the mid-20s. The almond is in bloom and the British residents over there (if no-one else) are debating whether it’s warm enough to leap into the sea. This week also brings good news on health and wealth. Spain has a few political issues to sort out though, with a General Election called for Easter Sunday.

Anglo-Dutch couple the van Hartens have ditched the rat race in the UK for the more relaxed pace of life, sunnier weather and affordable property of southwest France. Mrs van Harten describes the move as ‘the most relaxed move I’ve ever made’ – we caught with her to find out her top tips for a smooth relocation, and to hear how she and her husband are enjoying their new life.

My top places and events in Italy

We purchased our property in Apulia, Italy, 11 years ago this month, and have lived here permanently ever since. Our Italian home, that we lovingly renovated ourselves, is our most favourite place to be. Sitting in our large walled courtyard and surrounded by 8 acres of land, it is our haven away from the craziness going on in the world. History and culture are a big thing here in Italy, so when I was asked what my favourite places and events are, I quickly realised that these elements are actually a big part of what makes Italy my favourite country.

Also this week, they say an Englishman’s home is his castle, and we think that still holds in the Algarve, as the 15th-century Milfontes Castle comes up for sale on our portal.
